The joy of travelling in a caravan or motorhome is that you can take a few comforts of home with you wherever you journey, and we believe this absolutely extends to eating as well. If there are no pubs or restaurants near to your site, or you just prefer to cook for yourself, we want to help you enjoy delicious dishes while on the road this summer.

Because space is the biggest hurdle here, and you don’t have all the amenities of your kitchen at home within reach, it’s important to prioritise these 3 key points when planning what to take with you, so you can whip up meals that are filling, healthy, and most importantly, delicious.

Winning ingredients

A cooler box is invaluable for travelling, but without a proper fridge it can be hard to keep fresh ingredients at their best. Instead, opt for versatile dry goods that you can buy in bulk, or canned food that works with a multitude of recipes. Pasta, rice and couscous are fantastic served hot or cold, and you can make something different every time – great for if you get bored with the same thing very quickly!

Effortless prep

When you’re out and about or keeping to an itinerary, the last thing you want on your holiday is having to waste time making lunch or coming back after a busy day to an evening full of cooking. Easy-to-prepare snacks like wraps, pita chips and trail mix are great to take with you on a hike. For even quicker results, pre-prepare as much as you can at home before you leave by chopping, mixing and portioning so you don’t have to do it on the road.

Easy to cook

Conserve space by taking multipurpose cookware, utensils and cutlery and lean towards simple recipes that don’t take a lot of steps or need any fancy kitchenware to make. A great option is to batch-cook a chilli or soup so you can enjoy the leftovers, while one-pot dinners like curry or stew take the hassle out of your evening meals – with the added bonus of less washing up!
