D luxe hybrid caravan motorhome mattress side

A good night’s sleep can make all the difference when you’re travelling, but finding the right mattress for your leisure vehicle can be a little more complicated than for one at home since you’ll probably have to contend with limited space, an unusual-shaped bed, moving/folding sections or weight restrictions.

Which filling(s) do I need?

The best option takes into consideration both weight restrictions and the type of comfort and support you prefer. A good rule of thumb is to go for a similar mattress to the one you have at home.

  • Memory foam mattresses are lightweight, yet contour to the shape of your body for excellent pressure relief and support that’s tailored to you.
  • Hybrid mattresses combine both foam and springs for a more traditional and responsive sleep surface that gives you the best of both worlds, with enhanced airflow and edge support.

I need to consider weight/payload

We know that weight is crucial when it comes to life on the road, and this is even more true if your vehicle features a dropdown/overhead/bunk bed or has a manual lifting mechanism. So, if you need to lessen your load to reduce fuel consumption, opt for a slimmer, lighter mattress that offers comfort in a more compact profile. Our D-Lite Alto is the best choice here: filled with 100% recycled polyester fibres, it’s up to 45% lighter than other leisure vehicle mattresses, with a 15cm depth to maximise overhead space.

How long should a mattress last?

Since a dedicated leisure vehicle mattress isn’t used as much as one at home, it can usually go quite a few years before showing signs of wear and tear. However, if you’ve had your mattress for 8+ years, or it’s second-hand, we recommend giving it a careful inspection between uses to gauge when it might be time to upgrade. Sometimes, it’s better to go for a replacement even sooner, in cases where it starts to sag or dip, the fillings are breaking down or becoming less supportive, causing new aches, or you notice damp/mould taking effect.

I have an unusually shaped bed – what do I do?

Campervan and motorhome beds quite often aren’t standard rectangles: many feature irregular shapes such as curved corners, angled sides and tapered ends to cater to the diverse layouts of the vehicle. Often, different models from the same manufacturer can feature a variety of bed configurations, so it’s always very important to ensure your mattress has the correct requirements.

Because of this, people often think that the only way to get a mattress to fit is to buy standard foam and then cut it themselves. However, this can be difficult, time-consuming and most importantly, unnecessary. We at Duvalay want to make the whole process as easy as possible for you, so to get a perfectly fitted mattress from us, all you need to do is choose the mattress you want with the correct details for your bed and send us your vehicle’s make and model. We have a large catalogue of templates, so once we have your order, we’ll provide a template so you can confirm or adjust as needed. It’s as easy as that, and with this info, we’ll lovingly hand craft a made-to-measure mattress to the dimensions and shape you require, including multiple sections where necessary.

Does my mattress need to be split or hinged?

This might be required if your mattress needs to fold when lifted, stored or your bed is converted into a seating area for example, making it easier to handle. If this is the case, just let us know your requirements and we can easily make your mattress in up to five sections, or hinge two pieces together for convenience.
