Autumn road trip

For lots of schools throughout the country, this week is Half Term, and this means one big question is on the minds of parents everywhere once again: How to keep the kids occupied?

If you’re lucky enough to own a campervan, caravan or motorhome, you’re already got a leg-up on options, since children love nothing more than to get away for a week’s adventure – and you get to spend quality time together as a family too.

Though trips definitely have a different feel to the summer now that the temperature is dropping and the nights are drawing in, we want to show you that there are still plenty of ways to make an Autumn break full of fun.

Getting away in a leisure vehicle gives you the chance to explore the beauty of the UK, with woodland trails and countryside scenes looking particularly beautiful with the leaves changing colour and that lovely smell of the Autumn air. We also recommend looking for pumpkin patches and hay mazes that might be near to where you pitch up, to really get you into the spirit of the season.

To keep little ones entertained and excited about getting outdoors, a nature trail is always well-received, and you might find that the adults start to get just as engrossed in spotting different wildlife and collecting foliage for a scrapbook of memories from your adventures together.

Of course, it wouldn’t be October in the UK without a very high probability of rain, so if you do find that the weather puts a dampener on any outdoor activities, be sure to pack lots of fun board and card games, as well as Autumn crafts with any leaves and pinecones you found earlier.

Whether you accomplish your mission of tiring the kids out indoors or out, wind down in snug comfort during the evening by roasting marshmallows on the campfire and swapping spooky stories (what could be better so near to Halloween?) or enjoying a family movie night perhaps.
